Battalion at Rutherford’s Downhill Derby

The 3rd Annual Rutherford Downhill Derby – Saturday June 15 beginning at 1pm
Location: beginning on the West Pierrepont Ave. hill between Montross Ave. and Carmita Ave. along the Lincoln Woods.

They expect 60 to 70 car entries, most are homemade. Our Battalion’s entry is a soapbox derby car made in the 1950s by a vacuum repair business in York, PA that raced in the National Soapbox Derby held annually in Akron, OH. In 2019 our driver will be Sebastian Liuba.

There are several ways you can join in on the action:
(1)The Rutherford Downhill Derby committee is always looking for volunteers to help set up and take down. At least 100 hay bales will need placement along the course. For more info, visit the derby website:
(2) We won’t know the specific time we’ll race, but loud cheering could possibly cause our car to go faster.
(3) Bringing cold drinks or snacks for our Battalion guys–some of whom will be volunteers at the finish line (helping to stop cars without good brakes from going into Riverside Ave).
(4) All spectators can text their votes for us for the “People’s Choice” award.

Hoping to see you there!
