Gerard DeMatteo

gerardBefore the start of his junior year in college in 1974 Gerard became a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ while attending Rutgers University. He then transferred to Mannes College of Music and received his Bachelor of Music degree in 1977.  He continued his studies at  Columbia University and received his Masters degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1982.

Through the 80’s he was department chairman at the Newark Community School of the Arts and later became Chairman of the Music Department of Northeastern Bible College in Essex Falls, NJ. In 1988 he left Northeastern Bible College and took the position of Director of Operations at the expanding Newark Community School of the Arts.

Music was his focus but during these years of teaching and administration he and his wife Mickie became increasingly involved in their local church and sensed God’s calling to full time pastoral ministry. He began taking evening courses at Northeastern Bible College and later at Alliance Theological Seminary in Nyack, NY.  That ever increasing desire became a reality when he left NCSA and became a full time elder pastoring at Rutherford Bible Chapel in 1992.  He resides with his wife Mickie and four daughters Lauren, Stephanie, Suzanne and Hannah in Rutherford.
